Blue-striped dune route to the beach at Carter Lake, 13 miles north.
At the interface of trees and sand, hikers follow blue-striped trail posts through the dunes to the beach. Wildlife abounds in the deflation plain, which is often flooded in winter, and the trail connects to the Taylor Dune Trail. Located 13 miles north of Reedsport on US 101; turn west at Carter Lake Campground, where the trail begins. Distance: 1.5 miles to the beach one way. Difficulty: Easy to Moderate. Fee/pass required for parking; facilities at trailhead.
